Its large leaves sitting on long stalks make it a showy houseplant and its fabulously coloured and strangely shaped flowers also add to its popularity. In winter months they exhibit vivid orange and blue colours. This plant is really easy to care for; even novice gardeners can feel free to try and grow it.

It has moderate water needs; allow the soil to dry out almost completely before the next watering. In summer it requires more water, so you can even keep its soil constantly moist.
Young plants are not yet able to flower. They bloom for the first time at about 10-15 years of age, so if you want to enjoy the beauty of its flowers soon then it’s worth finding an older plant.
It is a herbaceous plant from South Africa that found its way to Europe in the 17th century. In summer you can even find a place for it in the garden or on the balcony, but it will reach a height of 1.5-2 metres indoors, too. After keeping it indoors, get it used to sunlight gradually so that its leaves won’t get burnt.
