Give it a bright spot, out of direct sunlight. It requires a constant temperature.
Provide the plant with well-draining soil, and water it only when the medium is dried out, otherwise the leaf stalks will easily rot.
Its interesting but not particularly showy flowers develop on long, slim stalks that grow above the foliage. The flowers usually dry out in a few days, but sometimes they keep going for weeks.
It is a low-growing plant, native to Brazil. It grows up to about 10-20 cm tall, with fleshy, melon-patterned rounded leaves sitting at the end of its stiff petioles.
