This houseplant with its slender, skinny stem-system enchants anyone with its special appearance. It can be an ideal choice for an apartment with medium light conditions. The basic colour of its leaves is light gray-green in shade, covered with an interesting, darker pattern. It is easy to care for, much easier than the Calatheas that are closely related to the plant.

It needs bright, partially shaded sites.
It needs regular watering, and prefers a moist, humid environment.
In a too dark spot it can start to lose its decorative leaf markings.
It is native to Brazil, and its alternative English name “Fishbone prayer plant” comes from the pattern on its leaves. Like the Marantas, this plant also moves its leaves, usually placing them upright at night, and folds them. Choose a well-draining, peat soil: the less it compacts, the better it is. Mix the planting medium with perlite.
